March Wellness Question
Why Do I Wake Up at 3 AM?
One of the most common sleep questions I hear lately is: “Why do I wake up at 3 AM and can’t fall back asleep?”
Several factors can cause this early-morning wake-up:
1. Stress & Cortisol Spikes
Your body naturally releases cortisol around 3–4 AM to prepare for waking. Stress can exaggerate this response, causing sudden alertness.
2. Blood Sugar Drops
If blood sugar dips overnight, your body releases adrenaline to compensate — which can wake you up suddenly.
3. Circadian Rhythm Disruption
The Daylight Saving Time change in March shifts your body clock by an hour, often disrupting REM sleep cycles.
4. Magnesium Deficiency
Magnesium regulates the nervous system and supports melatonin production. Low magnesium levels are strongly linked to insomnia and nighttime awakenings.
Quick Sleep Fixes
• Stop caffeine after 2 PM
• Reduce alcohol before bed
• Eat a small protein snack in the evening
• Dim lights after sunset
• Take magnesium glycinate before bed
Your sleep cycles should normalize within 7–10 days after the time change.
March Health Marker
Magnesium: The “Longevity Mineral”
Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical processes in the body, yet many adults are deficient.
Benefits of Optimal Magnesium Levels
• Improves deep sleep
• Reduces anxiety and stress hormones
• Supports heart rhythm and blood pressure
• Improves muscle recovery
• Helps regulate blood sugar
Many longevity researchers believe magnesium is one of the most overlooked health markers for long-term wellness.
| Age | Recommended Intake |

Many people supplement with magnesium glycinate for sleep and cognitive health. Here are the best forms of Magnesium and when to use them.
